Minister of National Defense, Angel Tilvar, had a working meeting on Monday with Pawel Bejda, Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense (MApN) in Bucharest.
According to the MApN, the discussions focused on consolidating NATO’s long-term deterrence and defense posture, as well as on strengthening strategic dialogue and practical cooperation, both at bilateral level and within NATO and the European Union.
„Poland is and will remain a strategic partner of Romania, as well as a valuable contributor to the security of the Black Sea region, especially through the participation of the military affiliated to the South-East Multinational Brigade in Craiova”, emphasized Minister Tilvar, according to the cited source.
An important point of the discussions was the marking of three years since the outbreak of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The two officials reaffirmed Romania’s and Poland’s firm support for Ukraine, underlining the importance of maintaining allied unity and solidarity in the face of security challenges in the region.
During the meeting, the two officials also discussed the intensification of cooperation between the defense industries of the two states, given the current security context and the need to develop essential defense capabilities for the fulfillment of the entire spectrum of missions.
At the same time, the close cooperation between the two countries within the Bucharest 9 Initiative (B9) was highlighted, as well as the importance of increasing the relevance of this format, co-chaired by Romania and Poland, to ensure a united and efficient allied response to the threats coming from the Russian Federation.
