AUR goes on parliamentary strike over court ruling

Published on

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) is calling „abusive” a recent ruling of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) rejecting the presidential bid of Calin Georgescu, saying that it will continue to act in accordance with what he will decide and stresses that he wants „to have an authentic sovereigntist candidate”, not a „faux sovereigntist, forced on us by the establishment.”

„AUR condemns the abusive decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) to reject the candidacy of Mr Calin Georgescu, following the illegal blockade previously put in place by the Central Electoral Bureau. This ruling is a punch in the mouth of the real opposition in Romania, of the sovereign candidates and a clear proof that the political thugs who control the Romanian state are desperate to maintain their power at any cost (…). We will act further in accordance with what Mr Calin Georgescu will decide (…). We want there to be an authentic sovereigntist candidate, not a faux sovereigntist, forced on us by the establishment. We will continue to act in accordance with what Mr Calin Georgescu will decide, because this fight is not about a man, but about the future of Romania,” AUR said in a press statement released on Wednesday.

According to AUR, the final decision to support a candidate for the presidential election will be taken after consultation with Calin Georgescu.

At the same time, the party announces a parliamentary strike along with the other sovereigntist parties.

„AUR will go on a parliamentary strike starting Wednesday, March 12, along with the other sovereigntist parties. We will not stop until democracy and the right of Romanians to free elections are restored. Romania must belong to the Romanians, not to those who believe they are masters over this people! The fight continues!”
