Romanian Chief of Defence Staff: We aim for a more consistent presence of Spanish servicemen

Published on

The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Spain, Tuesday and Wednesday, at the invitation extended by his counterpart, Admiral Teodoro Lopez Caldero, context in which he talked about an enhanced presence of Spanish servicemen in our country, according to Agerpres.

The discussions’ agenda tackled the security situation, the identification of ways to increase bilateral cooperation and measures to strengthen the allied deterrence and defence posture on the Eastern Flank, including through the participation of the Spanish servicemen in the missions planned by NATO in Romania, a National Defence Ministry (MApN) press release shows.

„In the context of the strategic partnership between Romania and the Kingdom of Spain, but also of the current geopolitical context, we aim for a more consistent presence of Spanish servicemen, which will materialise through the participation with relevant capabilities within the allied posture in our country. Moreover, we will expand the opportunities for joint training in order to increase the degree of interoperability and improve the training level of the troops. Strengthening resilience in the face of the disruptive potential of new security challenges remains a desideratum for the Romanian Army and for our allies,” Daniel Petrescu stated, according to the same source.

The schedule of the Chief of the Defense Staff also included visits to Cyberspace Command and to Retamares and Bujeo military bases. Moreover, General Daniel Petrescu, alongside his counterpart, paid tribute to Spanish heroes by laying a wreath of flowers at the monument in Plaza de la Lealtad in Madrid.
