Parliament in a joint plenary meeting on Tuesday amended the Statute of Deputies and Senators, so that parliamentarians who are absent without justification from meetings will be penalized by withholding 5% of their salary for each day of absence.
A total of 337 deputies and senators voted „in favour” of the decision, which imposes this sanction, 10 voted „against” and 51 abstained.
„Failure to participate in at least one parliamentary activity held at the Chamber of Deputies or the Senate, as applicable, within the approved schedule and agenda of the Standing Bureau, is considered an unjustified absence and results in the withholding of 5% of the deputy’s or senator’s gross monthly salary, except in cases of justified absences,” the decision reads.
The draft also provides that deputies and senators, along with their wealth declaration, must submit a curriculum vitae to the Secretary-General of the Chamber of Deputies or the Senate, which will then be published on the institution’s website.
