Arrivals in tourism accommodation structures, up 3pct two months into 2025

The number of arrivals recorded in tourist accommodation structures (including apartments and rental rooms) in the first two months of 2025 reached 1.6 million people, a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Friday.

Of the total number of arrivals, during the period of January 1 – February 28, 2025, arrivals of Romanian tourists in accommodation structures represented 83.9%, while the arrivals of foreign tourists accounted for 16.1%.

Overnight stays recorded in tourist accommodation structures (including apartments and rental rooms) during the same period totaled 3.19 million, a 4.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Of the total number of overnight stays, in the first two months of this year, Romanian tourists’ overnight stays in accommodation structures represented 81.2%, while foreign tourists’ overnight stays represented 18.8%.

The average length of stay in the first two months of 2025 was 1.9 days for Romanian tourists and 2.2 days for foreign tourists.

The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in the first two months of 2025 was 23.7% across all accommodation structures (including apartments and rental rooms), an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024.

By counties, in the first two months of this year, the number of arrivals of tourists in accommodation structures (including apartments and rental rooms) was higher in: Bucharest (269,700 people), Brasov (249,100 people) and Prahova (96,100 people), while overnight stays in accommodation structures were higher in: Bucharest (553,900 people), Brasov (483,800 people) and Prahova (195,700 people).

By countries, the most numerous arrivals of foreign tourists accommodated in tourist accommodation structures (including apartments and rental rooms) in the first two months of 2025 came from: Italy (33,200 people), the United Kingdom (21,500 people) and Germany (21,400 people).

Additionally, INS data shows that arrivals recorded in tourist accommodation structures (including apartments and rental rooms) in February 2025 totaled 817,600 people, a 3.5% decrease compared to February 2024.

Of the total number of arrivals, in February 2025, Romanian tourist arrivals in accommodation structures represented 83.6%, while foreign tourist arrivals accounted for 16.4%.

Overnight stays recorded in tourist accommodation structures (including apartments and rental rooms) in February totaled 1.575 million, a 3.4% decrease compared to February 2024.

Of the total number of overnight stays, in February 2025, overnight stays by Romanian tourists in accommodation structures represented 81%, while foreign tourists’ overnight stays accounted for 19%.

The average length of stay in February 2025 was 1.9 days for Romanian tourists and 2.2 days for foreign tourists. The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in February 2025 accounted for 24.7% across all accommodation structures (including apartments and rental rooms), a decrease of 0.5 percentage points compared to February 2024.
