The Board of Directors of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) is convening today in a new monetary policy meeting, after deciding at its previous meeting on February 14 to maintain the key interest rate at 6.5% per annum.

In 2024, BNR decided on two occasions to lower the key interest rate: in July, from 7% per year to 6.75% per year, and in August to 6.5% per year. The key interest rate was unchanged since January 2023.
