The Ministry of Energy has reached a total of 10 billion euros in investments and support schemes approved through the Modernisation Fund, of which over 6.25 billion euros have already been effectively paid to our country, informs the energy minister, Sebastian Burduja.
„Romania is an European champion in attracting non-reimbursable funds for energy. At the Ministry of Energy, we are breaking record after record in attracting European funds for energy projects. We have reached a total of 10 billion euros in investments and support schemes already approved through the Modernisation Fund, of which over 6.25 billion euros have already been effectively paid to our country. This is European money that we do not have to give back and which is found in hundreds of projects that transform the energy system, the economy and the daily lives of Romanians. Every euro invested in European funds is an additional chance to have lower bills and transform Romania into a regional power in the energy sector,” the minister wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.
He also said that Romania obtained approval for another 812 million euros last week, at the meeting of the Investment Committee of the Modernisation Fund in Luxembourg. Five of the six approved proposals were submitted by the Ministry of Energy. The funding will go towards projects to expand energy production from renewable sources, to modernise district heating networks and to increase energy efficiency in industry, including to support those in the agri-food sector in producing their own energy.
Burduja also wrote on the social network that through the Contracts for Difference scheme, payments of over 230 million euros were approved to support investments in photovoltaic and wind projects. Another 150 million euros are going towards new production capacities from renewable sources. 40 million euros are intended for public green energy self-consumption projects, and 140 million euros are allocated to district heating networks. In addition, 50 million euros will support energy efficiency in industrial installations. The Ministry of Agriculture has, in turn, obtained 100 million euros for green energy intended for agriculture and the food industry.
„Today, Romania is ranking first in Europe in terms of non-reimbursable funding attracted from the Modernisation Fund. This performance is the result of a clear strategy: investments, investments, investments. (…) Decades of lack of investment in the energy sector cannot be recovered overnight, but we can certainly do it in a much shorter time than anyone would have anticipated. We have proven that Romania can. All these results are not accidental. They reflect the uninterrupted work of an exceptional team, which we managed to form at the Ministry of Energy. They are professionals who are good at what they do, but they also put their soul into the service of Romanians and Romania. (…) We continue what we committed to do: to attract funds, launch calls for projects and support investments that matter. Energy is a theme of national security, of economic competitiveness, which influences the lives of each of us Romanians and that of future generations, to whom we must leave a safe, prosperous and clean country,” the minister of energy pointed out.
