Chairperson of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor said on Wednesday that there are no signals for the withdrawal of the US military from Romania, recalling a statement by Secretary of State Marco Rubio on his country’s commitment to NATO.
„There are no signals for the withdrawal of the [US] military from Romania. There is a line of thought in the US to rebalance the military presence outside the United States and above all there is an orientation towards the Pacific, for a while now. (…) But as regards the military presence in Europe, within the North Atlantic Alliance, there is no decision and no signals. Just as Rubio said last week at his meeting with foreign ministers that the United States remains committed to the North Atlantic Alliance and the Eastern Flank, so it is today. As for the rest, I cannot engage in speculations of all kinds,” said Kelemen Hunor, at the end of an electoral event.
In reference to businessman Dragos Sprinceana, Kelemen Hunor said „the latter is not qualified to talk about international relations and that there is no need for that”.
