The natural population change in Romania stayed negative in February 2025, at minus 10,559, with the number of deaths being two times higher than that of live births, according to data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
In February 2025, 10,086 births were registered, down 20.9% from January 2025.
The number of deaths recorded in February 2025 was 20,645 (10,617 men and 10,028 women), down 12.5% for men and 12.5% for women from January 202.
The number of deaths of children under the age of one recorded in February 2024 was 85, down 21 from January 2025.
In February 2025, 42.1% (8,685 deaths) of the total number of deaths was in people aged 80 and over, 26.7% (5,503 deaths) in people aged 70-79 and 17.2%, or 3,550 deaths in people aged 60-69. On the other hand, the fewest deaths were recorded in the age class 0-4 years (85 deaths), 5-19 years (46 deaths) and 20-29 years (72 deaths).
In February 2025, 1,734 final divorces were recorded.
