Independent presidential candidate Victor Ponta declared on Thursday that Marcel Ciolacu should „urgently” resign from the position of prime minister, otherwise he will dismiss him as soon as he becomes head of state.
„I believe that Mr. Ciolacu should immediately resign from the position of prime minister – otherwise I will dismiss him as soon as I become president! After he brought Romania to economic collapse, defrauded the military, pensioners and entrepreneurs, indebted the country to 100 billion euros, canceled the legitimate election in November, led the PSD to the lowest electoral score in history and sold it to the PNL and Nicusor Dan, after he ridiculed Romania’s relationship with the United States and lost European funds from the PNRR due to the incompetence and corruption he oversees – I think it is obvious to everyone that his place is no longer at the Victoria Palace,” Ponta wrote on Facebook.
He added that he had seen that Ciolacu had already received public assurances from Nicusor Dan that he would remain prime minister.
„Well, I assure Marcel Ciolacu that I will be elected by the Romanians as president of Romania and that I will immediately remove him from the position of prime minister, a position in which he does so much harm to this country! And, unlike others, I do not even guarantee him a private plane for his departure,” Victor Ponta said.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu demanded on Thursday that Victor Ponta withdraw from the presidential election race, after the latter revealed that in 2014, as prime minister, he had agreed „to flood Romanian villages to save foreign cities.”
