MAI spokesperson: 33 reports of possible electoral offences or violations

The police have recorded 33 reports of possible electoral offences or violations during the first week of the electoral campaign, which has proceeded under normal conditions and without any major incidents, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) Monica Dajbog announced on Friday.

„A total of 33 reports were registered concerning possible electoral offences or violations: 26 were confirmed, four are under investigation, and three were not confirmed. MAI forces issued five warnings and four fines amounting to 6,600 lei,” said Dajbog during a press briefing at the Ministry’s headquarters.

In addition, an investigation is underway into a possible offence of public incitement, after a citizen posted online content encouraging acts of violence.

The MAI official also noted that nine electoral events took place during the first week of the campaign, all of which occurred without any issues.

„Following the circulation of various videos and posts online aimed at misinforming citizens about MAI representatives and their actions, which unjustly seek to turn public opinion against the Ministry, we have launched an information campaign to educate citizens and prevent disinformation,” Dajbog added.

She explained that the campaign features video clips that inform the public about the legal duties and responsibilities of MAI structures in the electoral context, highlighting that many disinformation attempts falsely suggest that MAI personnel have powers beyond those granted by law.

The videos also provide relevant advice on how citizens can protect themselves from manipulation attempts.

This campaign was produced in March and launched on April 4, running throughout the entire electoral period.

The campaign is supported by the National Audiovisual Council, which issued and distributed a decision to broadcasters in this regard. The videos are also being shared on the official social media pages of MAI structures.
