PresidentialElections2025/George Simion: We have 6 million Romanians abroad; EU funds should help solving this issue

Published on

There are 6 million Romanians working abroad, and EU funds should not go to Ukraine, but to Romanian citizens and their children and to solving this problem on the labour market, the AUR (Alliance for the Union of Romanians) presidential candidate, George Simion, said on Thursday during the debate with his opponent in the race, Nicusor Dan, at the Euronews television channel.

He was asked what reform solutions at the EU level he supports to encourage the return to the country and the reintegration of Romanians from the diaspora, as well as whether EU cohesion funds should be linked to strategies related to labour force retention.

„We have a big problem with the labour market and Romanian entrepreneurs, those who try to pay taxes in our country. According to our data, there are 6 million Romanians working abroad. EU funds should not go to Ukraine, to anyone else, but to the EU citizens, to Romanians, to Romanian children and to solving this problem on the labour market. We see in Bucharest, in Cluj, Indians, Pakistanis, people from Bangladesh, from other states, but we are worried about the Romanians, the loss of jobs for Romanians or the lack of well-paid jobs. Citizens from the third world come, and our Romanians go abroad,” said George Simion.

According to him, his party has the best experts to implement solutions, following the Polish model, for bringing Romanians from the diaspora back to the country and their reintegration.

„Poland succeeded, it brought almost a million Poles back to the country through social reintegration programmes and that’s what we have to do too. We know the Polish model, we have the best experts on our side,” Simion also said.
