Europe Day/Hurezeanu: Romania continues to support and rely on the ideal of a united and strong Europe

Published on

Romania continues to support and rely – in the current complex European and international context, marked by unprecedented challenges in recent decades – on the ideal of a united and strong Europe, said interim Minister of Foreign Affairs Emil Hurezeanu on Friday, in a message marking the 75th anniversary of the presentation of the Schuman Declaration, the founding act of the European Project.

The head of Romanian diplomacy evoked a Europe capable of successfully managing a wide and diverse agenda at the appropriate level, „a Europe that can simultaneously harness opportunities for cooperation, for the benefit of all its citizens, including all Romanian citizens, a Europe that guarantees rights and ensures peace and prosperity for today’s generation and those to come.”

He gave assurances regarding Romania’s commitment to the core of the united European project.

„At the same time, we highlight the importance of genuine solidarity at EU level, through necessary and sufficient actions meant to contribute to the development and reform of the European project,” Hurezeanu said.

The minister noted that „Europe is a source of inspiration for the candidate states that have also chosen the path of joining the European Union.”

„Romania continues to diligently advocate both for strengthening the Union’s internal action and for continuing the EU enlargement process with new members, based on the principle of merit. We will continue to strongly advocate for anchoring the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and other partners on a firm pro-European path, as a solid guarantee in the context of the volatile security environment at the borders of the European Union,” said Emil Hurezeanu.

The Romanian minister argued that joint efforts to preserve the European model and the shared values represent, equally, „the most effective response to combating increasingly visible narratives and trends contrary to the European spirit.”

„We must not forget that a united Europe is built through daily efforts and with the involvement of all of us,” he pointed out.
