Gov’t approves funds to organise OECD meeting in Bucharest

Published on

The Government approved in Wednesday’s meeting a decision regarding the funds allocated for an OECD event to be held between June 10-13.

The event refers to the meeting of the Peer Review Group of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes under the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The estimated required amount is 743,600 lei, which will be covered from the budget of the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF).

The event aims to strengthen economic diplomacy and is organised by the Ministry of Finance, in cooperation with the Joint Special Parliamentary Committee supporting Romania’s OECD accession, under the High Patronage of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, according to a government press release.

As host country, Romania will provide the logistical support for the meeting – including venue rental, technical equipment, interpretation services, catering, formal dinners, and protocol arrangements. Accommodation costs will be borne by the participants.

This high-level technical event, essential for global tax governance and the promotion of international tax transparency standards, was approved by the Government in February via memorandum.

‘The special nature of the meeting and the need to ensure its effective organisation justify a derogation from the provisions of Government Ordinance No. 80/2001 on spending norms for public authorities and institutions, as amended by Law No. 247/2002,’ the Government said.

The event’s spending norms and estimated budget are detailed in the annex to the approved decision.

Romania has been a member of the OECD Global Forum since 2013 (Law No. 328/2013), actively participating in peer review processes and contributing experts to reviews concerning both on-request and automatic exchange of information.

The OECD Global Forum, active since 2009, plays a crucial role in promoting international cooperation to combat tax evasion, by implementing standards for fiscal transparency.
