EnerMin Burduja: Energy projects require billions of euros in investments plus secret ingredient, trus

Energy projects require billions of euros in investments and stability over the longest possible time horizon, plus the secret ingredient, trust, believes the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja.

„In the energy sector, we have attracted over 14 billion euros in European funds in the last two years and have launched the most ambitious investment program since 1989. We have the chance to become a major regional power in the sector again, and the good signs are already visible – last year we put over 1200MW into operation, as much as in the previous 8 years combined. This year we are targeting 2500MW and the post-December record. I remind you: each MW means the chance for Romanians to have lower bills and the chance for the national economy to be more competitive. All of this is now being questioned. Why? Because energy projects require billions of EUR in investments and stability over the longest possible time horizon. Plus the secret ingredient: trust,” the minister wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.

He recalled, in context, that Romania is going through a budgetary crisis, not the first and probably not the last, and trust makes the difference between a crisis that is resolved and one that deepens into economic recession. Burduja specifies that, although the budget cannot be repaired overnight, a clear signal must be sent that the authorities know the way forward.

„Romania is going through a budget crisis. It is not the first. It will probably not be the last. But what makes the difference between a crisis that is resolved and one that deepens into a deep economic recession is trust. Trust in the state’s capacity to respond with lucidity and courageous reforms, trust between us, the citizens, and trust in ourselves. (…) We will not fix the budget overnight. But we can send a clear signal that we know where we want to go: continuing all strategic projects, such as Neptun Deep, Reactors 3 and 4 or Tarnita-Lapusesti, because these mean energy security, investments, jobs, the Romania we all dream of; demonstrating the fact that transparency, competence and predictability are not just crisis slogans, but reform tools,” the Minister of Energy also specified.
