Primary energy resources and electricity resources increased in the first three months of this year by 5.7% and 0.3%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2024, while final electricity consumption in the economy rose 0.2%, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Thursday.

In the first quarter of 2025, primary energy resources totaled 8.161 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), an increase of 440,500 toe compared to Q1 2024.

Domestic production amounted to 4.209 million toe, a decrease of 274,600 toe (-6.1%) compared to January 1 – March 31, 2024, while imports were 3.952 million toe, up 715,100 toe (+22.1%).

Also, in Q1 2025, electricity resources totaled 17.716 billion kWh, an increase of 44.7 million kWh compared to the same period in 2024.

Electricity production from thermal power plants was 5.211 billion kWh, down 118.3 million kWh (-2.2%), hydropower plants decreased to 2.727 billion kWh, down 1.696 billion kWh (-38.3%), nuclear power plants produced 2.953 billion kWh, down 47.3 million kWh (-1.6%).

In contrast, wind farms produced 1.614 billion kWh, a decrease of 526.6 million kWh compared to January 1 – March 31, 2024. Solar energy from photovoltaic installations amounted to 665.4 million kWh, an increase of 169.7 million kWh.

Final electricity consumption in this period was 13.082 billion kWh, up 1.3% compared to January 1 – March 31, 2024, with final consumption in the economy increasing 0.2%.

According to INS data, household consumption increased 4.9%, while public lighting decreased 6.2%.

Electricity exports totaled 3.215 billion kWh, down 25.5 million kWh, and technological own consumption in networks and stations was 1.420 billion kWh, down 94.3 million kWh.
