The Government draws attention „firmly” that the information or conspiracy theories circulating in the online space, according to which the Government or other state institutions „are preparing to rig the elections”, are „completely unfounded” and are part of a „disinformation effort” aimed at undermining trust in the democratic process.
„The Romanian Government and all institutions with responsibilities in organizing the electoral process are working closely to conduct, in full legality and transparency, the second round of voting for the election of the President of Romania, which will take place on May 18, 2025. The right to vote is a pillar of democracy, and state institutions guarantee that every Romanian citizen can vote in safe and legal conditions. We firmly draw attention to the fact that the information or conspiracy theories circulating online, according to which the Government or other state institutions are ‘preparing to rig the elections’, are completely unfounded and are part of a disinformation effort aimed at undermining trust in the democratic process,” reads a message posted on the Government’s Facebook account on Friday.
Romania is a democratic state, with clear mechanisms for electoral supervision, and any attempt to manipulate public opinion by spreading falsehoods will be exposed and firmly combated, the post emphasizes.
