George Simion, the AUR (Alliance for the Union of Romanians) candidate in the presidential race, congratulated, on Sunday night into Monday, his opponent, the independent Nicusor Dan, for winning the second round of the elections, emphasising that this „was the will of the Romanian people.”
„I would like to congratulate my opponent, Nicusor Dan, he won the elections, it was the will of the Romanian people. I want to thank the over 5 million Romanians who put their trust in me. I will not disappoint them, there is nothing more precious to me than their trust. We were alone against an entire system, alone against everyone, I am proud of you and I hope I represented you with honour,” George Simion said in a video message published on his Facebook page.
He says that the fight must not be abandoned, because „Romania and Romanians must come first.”
„It is time to continue our fight for justice, truth, for the natural family, for the Christian faith and for freedom. We will continue to be an important and significant part of Romanian society. I ask each of you not to give up. We will go all the way even if it is hard to feel this bitter taste of defeat. Romania and the Romanian people must come first,” George Simion also said.
After the centralization of all 20,085 minutes, Nicusor Dan obtained 53.60% of the votes, and George Simion 46.40%. More than 11.6 million Romanians voted in the second round of the presidential race.
