Nicusor Dan, the independent candidate who won the second round of the presidential elections, thanked the Romanian citizens from the Republic of Moldova for their vote.

„I am especially grateful to the Romanian citizens from the Republic of Moldova. Together, with trust and hope, we will continue on our European path,” Nicusor Dan wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday night into Monday.

He also thanked the president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, for the congratulatory message and for her support in the past days.

In the Republic of Moldova, Nicusor Dan obtained 88% of the votes cast, according to data presented in real time by the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP).

In the second round of the presidential elections, a number of 158,143 Romanian citizens went to the polls in the Republic of Moldova.
