The number of companies and authorised natural persons (PFA) that entered insolvency in the first four months of 2025 was 2,214, a decrease of 12.35% compared to the same period in 2024, when 2,526 insolvencies were recorded, according to data published on the website of the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).
The highest number of insolvent companies and PFAs was recorded in Bucharest – 478, a decrease of 2.45% compared to the first four months of 2024.
Following in the insolvency rankings were the counties of: Bihor – 170 insolvencies (down 23.42%), Cluj – 160 (down 17.10%), Ilfov – 116 (up 20.83%), Timis – 98 (down 32.41%), Prahova – 79 (up 12.86%).
At the other end of the spectrum, the fewest insolvency cases were recorded in: Harghita – 5 (same as January-April 2024), Covasna – 9 (down 40%),
Teleorman – 10 (down 47.37%), Vaslui – 11 (down 15.38%), Gorj – 14 (down 36.36%).
By sector of activity, the highest number of insolvencies occurred in: wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles – 555 cases (down 18.04% from early 2024), construction – 433 (down 17.21%), transport and storage – 269 (up 0.37%), manufacturing industry – 231 (down 19.51%).
In April 2025 alone, 586 insolvencies were recorded, most of them in: Bucharest – 108, Cluj – 53, Bihor – 41, Ilfov – 31, Timis – 26.
