The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) expressed its „special concern” in an urgent conversation with the Israeli ambassador in Bucharest following the security incident that took place on Wednesday in Jenin, West Bank, and requested clarifications.
„Following the security incident that took place on Wednesday, May 21, in Jenin, West Bank, in which a group of diplomats, Palestinian officials and local journalists were involved, including the head of Romania’s Representative Office in Ramallah, the MAE raised the topic in an urgent conversation with the Israeli ambassador in Bucharest, in which special concern was expressed regarding this incident and clarification of the circumstances in which it occurred was requested,” according to a release from the MAE sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.
According to the quoted source, „the MAE will continue to coordinate with the other EU member states and partners to elucidate the circumstances of this regrettable incident and to learn the results of the investigations launched by the Israeli side.”
The visit of some diplomats to the northern occupied West Bank was interrupted on Wednesday by what the Israeli army presented as warning shots, after the Palestinian National Authority denounced „direct” shots with „live ammunition”, in an incident that sparked a series of reactions of disapproval in several Western chancelleries, including in Brussels, AFP and EFE report.
