We need government with full powers as soon as possible (FinMin Barna)

We need a government with full powers in the shortest possible time, which will carry forward the measures of reducing expenses and fiscal consolidation, and until then the Ministry of Finance ensures this interim period in which we ensure the payment of salaries, pensions and investments, declared the Minister of Finance, Tanczos Barna, who met with the President-elect Nicusor Dan on Thursday.

„I hope that in the shortest possible time Romania will have a government with full powers, a government that will have strong parliamentary support, which will carry forward these measures to reduce spending and fiscal consolidation. In the first days after the elections, we already had positive signals from the national, international, monetary, and capital markets, we had an appreciation of the leu, we had an increase in the stock markets, we had a reduction in the costs of financing the budget deficit. It is very clear that we need a government with full powers in the shortest possible time to carry forward these positive trends. Until then, the Ministry of Finance ensures this interim, ensures this transition period, in which we ensure the payment of salaries, pensions, investments, at the same time taking the necessary measures to consolidate revenues, consolidate collections and balance the fiscal-budgetary situation,” the minister said in a video message posted on his Facebook account.

Tanczo Barna presented the president-elect on Thursday with the budget and budget execution situation for 2025, as well as the measures already taken to reduce spending and for fiscal consolidation. The Minister of Investments and European Projects, Marcel Bolos, was also present at the meeting on Thursday, and Romania’s obligations regarding the PNRR were also analyzed.

President-elect Nicusor Dan said on Thursday about the promise made during the electoral campaign that VAT would not increase, that this is „the premise from which all discussions on Finance start. Let’s wait another week to see my and the parties’ points of view on the deficit. In any case, we need to make some corrections. I want them to be made from expenses”, the president-elect said.
