President Nicusor Dan said that on Tuesday he will have a phone conversation with Céline Gauer, Director-General of SG RECOVER – the Recovery and Resilience Task Force within the General Secretariat of the European Commission.
‘We are in a group of countries with an excessive deficit. It’s true that we have the highest deficit among them. Tomorrow there is a meeting of the Finance Ministers at the European Commission. They will say, for each of the countries with excessive deficits, whether or not they have taken action. For us, they will say we have done nothing – but nothing more than that. (…) There will be a phone discussion, in which I will also participate at the beginning, today at 11:30,’ said Nicusor Dan in a statement given to the press in front of his residence.
He pointed out that the discussion with Céline Gauer will focus on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
‘This is an ongoing discussion with the Commission. Of course, Romania has made many promises and has done nothing. But now there is a new administration. (…) The discussion is on two levels: one with the Vice President of the Commission, Mr. Dombrovskis, which focuses on the deficit, and another with Ms. Gauer, focusing on the PNRR. This includes two aspects: on the one hand, trying to transfer certain projects we know we will complete in place of others we know we won’t; on the other hand, the reforms we committed to in the PNRR, with which we are behind schedule. So, these will be the topics of discussion with Ms. Gauer,’ the president said.
