President Nicusor Dan, while on a visit alongside His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain to the ‘Getica’ Joint Training Centre in Cincu on Tuesday, said that, at a challenging time for the Euro-Atlantic security, Spain has a consistent and concrete contribution to strengthening NATO’s Eastern Flank.
„We are going through an important and also challenging time for European and Euro-Atlantic security. Your Majesty, I thank you, on this occasion as well, for Spain’s concrete and consistent contribution to strengthen security on NATO’s Eastern Flank. The presence of Spain’s troops in Romania as part of the alliance battle group is clear proof of Madrid’s clear commitment to collective defence and deterrence of any threat to regional stability,” Nicusor Dan said at the ‘Getica’ Centre in Cincu.
The head of state thanked the Spanish military for the effort they make alongside the other troops deployed to Cincu to enhance the operational readiness of the battle group in Romania and for the continuous contribution to the deterrence posture in the Black Sea region.
„Only together we’ll be more effective and more determined in ensuring a safer security environment necessary for the development of our democratic societies. Together we’ll make Europe safer,” President Nicusor Dan also said.
He said that the Romanian community in Spain represents a vital link between the two nations.
„A vital link between our nations is the Romanian community in Spain. Over one million Romanians live, work and actively contribute to the economic and social life of Spain. Your Majesty, thank you for your continuous support for this community and for the efforts support of the Spanish authorities to ensure the due respect and support for Romanian citizens,” the head of state said.
Nicusor Dan underscored that the visit of the King of Spain reflects the depth of the bilateral relations founded on friendship, Euro-Atlantic solidarity and shared democratic values.
„Your Majesty, I warmly welcome you to Romania! (…) Your visit sends a strong message of unity and friendship between our nations. I am confident that the relations between Romania and Spain will continue to develop in the spirit of strong, responsible and forward-looking cooperation,” Nicusor Dan highlighted, having added a few welcome words in Spanish.
