Mandatory private pension (Pillar II) funds held assets worth 160.3 billion lei at the end of April 2025, an increase of 18% compared to the level recorded on the same date in 2024, according to statistics from the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF).

According to the same source, contributions collected in April 2025 amounted to 1.83 billion lei, while the average contribution was 403 lei.
At the end of April, government securities held the largest share of assets, totaling 106.64 billion lei, or 66.5%. In second place were equities, amounting to 36.54 billion lei (22.8%), followed by corporate bonds in third place, with 7.05 billion lei (4.4% of total assets).
The ASF pointed out that mandatory private pension funds had 8,341,812 participants in April 2025.
Within Pillar II, the following pension funds are active: Metropolitan Life, Aripi, AZT Viitorul tau, BCR, BRD, NN, and Vital.
