Voluntary pension funds, 17% up in April

Voluntary pension funds held assets worth 5.88 billion lei at the end of April 2025, marking a 17% increase compared to the level recorded on the same date in the previous year, according to a report by the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF).

„Most investments were made locally (95%), with the majority denominated in lei (88%),” the report shows.

The value of contributions transferred in April was 74.93 million lei, while the average contribution was 168 lei.

Government securities held the largest share of assets, totaling 3.83 billion lei or 64.8%. In second place were equities, with 1.46 billion lei (24.9%). Corporate bonds ranked third, amounting to 213.39 million lei, representing 3.6% of total assets.

According to ASF data, voluntary pension funds had 884,991 participants in April 2025.

Within Pillar III, the following pension funds are active: Aegon Esential, Azt Moderato, Azt Vivace, BCR Plus, BRD Medio, Generali Stabil, NN Activ, NN Optim, Pensia Mea and Raiffeisen Acumulare.
