President Nicusor Dan’s consultations with the parliamentary parties and political formations for the designation of the candidate for prime minister continue on Thursday at the Cotroceni Palace, with the delegation of the National Liberal Party (PNL).
The PNL delegation includes the party’s interim president, Ilie Bolojan, secretary general Adrian Vestea, and first vice presidents Emil Boc, Catalin Predoiu, Ciprian Ciucu and Dan Motreanu. On behalf of president Nicusor Dan, honorary advisor Dragos Anastasiu and Radu Burnete, who will be presidential advisor from July 1, are participating.
Adrian Vestea stated on Facebook, on Thursday, that the mandate with which the PNL goes to the consultations is a firm and responsible one: the formation of a pro-European coalition, with a solid programme for economic stability and political balance.
„We will support the appointment of Ilie Bolojan as prime minister – a leader with clear results in the administration, capable of building an efficient government, with a professional and responsible team,” Vestea wrote on the social media page.
He also showed that the PNL supports a credible plan to reduce the budget deficit and a set of realistic economic measures, which Romania urgently needs.
„In these moments, Romania needs clarity, competence and firm decisions. The PNL is ready to take this path – not for political interests, but for balance, stability and the trust of citizens,” the Liberal also said.
The discussions at the Cotroceni Palace, scheduled to last approximately four hours, began with representatives of the Social Democratic Party (PSD). After the Social Democrats, the head of state was supposed to consult with representatives of the AUR (Alliance for the Union of Romanians), but they announced that they would not participate.
President Nicusor Dan is also to discuss with the delegations of the Save Romania Union (USR), the Young People’s Party (POT), the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) and the parliamentary group of national minorities.
Representatives of the S.O.S. România (SOS) Party have also announced that they will not participate in the discussions.
The head of state convened these consultations, based on the provisions of Article 85 paragraph (1) and Article 103 paragraph (1) of the Constitution, in order to designate the candidate for the position of Prime Minister.
