President Nicusor Dan in Brussels on Thursday said that he could have a discussion with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen regarding the political situation in Romania, the budget deficit, and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

„There will hopefully be a discussion with Mrs von der Leyen on two topics: first and foremost, the political situation in Romania. I will explain the Government, the majority, what has happened over the past two weeks, and the two open issues we have with the Commission – the deficit and the PNRR,” the head of state said before attending the European Council meeting.

He outlined what the main message of the meeting would be.

„The most important thing is that we are serious people, and from the moment we formed the Government, we intend to keep our word. That is the main message,” said Nicusor Dan.

The President also pointed out that at the next European Council meeting, he will decide which European political family’s summit he will attend.

„Initially I said I would participate, but later, as sensitive issues are being discussed, it would not have been polite to jump from one meeting to another. So I shall decide where I’ll go at the next Council meeting, that is why I didn’t attend any of them this time,” explained Nicusor Dan.
