The Presidency of the Council of the EU – the Union’s ministerial forum – was taken over by Denmark on July 1 for the second half of this year. The motto of the Danish Presidency is „A strong Europe in a changing world.”
„The Danish Presidency’s program is structured around two priorities: Europe’s security and competitiveness. More specifically, it is about taking responsibility for our own security and taking action to strengthen the EU’s competitiveness,” said Mihai Tudose, Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Security and Defense.
„The objective in terms of defense is for Europe to be able to defend itself by 2030. In this regard, I note the emphasis on strengthening the European defense industry and the concern for mobilizing the necessary funding.
On the economic front, the intention to stimulate the simplification of administrative tasks and bureaucracy at the European level is welcome. The Danish Presidency of the EU Council wants to strengthen security of supply and encourage the reduction of Europe’s innovation gap in critical technologies, such as artificial intelligence,” said the president of the PSD National Council.
The Social Democrat MEP said that, in order to increase productivity in the EU, the Danish Presidency plans to strengthen social dialogue, ensure decent working conditions, and promote the free movement of workers under fair conditions.
„There is a strong social component in the program, which can be explained primarily by the presence of a Social Democrat prime minister at the head of the Danish government. This concern for dialogue between social partners is welcome in the current European context. I hope it will also resonate in Bucharest,” said Mihai Tudose, a member of the Group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.
