The value of agricultural production decreased in 2024 by 4.3% compared to the previous year, to 100.544 billion lei, according to semi-final data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics.

The value of crop production decreased by 10.1%, to 55.318 billion lei, that of livestock production increased by 5.1%, to 42.030 billion lei, and that of agricultural services decreased by 5.2%, to 3.195 billion lei.

„Compared to 2023, the structure of the value of agricultural production in 2024 highlights a decrease in the share of crop production to 55.0% (-5.3 p.p.) and an increase in livestock production to 41.8% (+4.8 p.p.). Agricultural services remained relatively constant, holding a share of 3.2%,” a press release from the INS states.

The structure of the value of plant production in 2024, by crop groups, presents the following differences compared to the previous year: increases in the shares of the value of production, recorded in other groups – legumes, grains, technical plants, flowers, secondary products, etc. (+4.5 p.p.), vegetables and melons (+2.4 p.p.), fruits and grapes, respectively in fodder plants (+0.7 p.p., for each category); decreases in the shares of the value of production, recorded in cereals (-6.4 p.p.), oilseeds (-1.7 p.p.) and potatoes (-0.2 p.p.).

The structure of the value of animal production in 2024, by species and product groups, presents the following differences compared to the previous year: increases in the shares of the value of production, recorded in cattle (+2.1 p.p.), sheep and goats (+1.0 p.p.), pigs (+0.6 p.p.) and products obtained from milk processing on the livestock farm (+0.1 p.p.); decreases in the shares of the value of production, recorded in: poultry (-3.6 p.p.) and other groups – beekeeping, sericulture, horse products (-0.2 p.p.).
