Nicusor Dan:Romania and Austria have everything they need to build an even stronger economic partnership

Romania and Austria have everything they need to build an even stronger economic partnership, President Nicusor Dan declared on Friday.

He gave a speech to business people gathered at the Salzburg 2025 Summit.

„The challenges we currently face are great, but so are the opportunities. Romania and Austria have everything they need to build an even stronger economic partnership. We have complementary strengths, common values and a common vision for the future of Europe”, the president pointed out.

Nicusor Dan highlighted that investments from Austria represent 12% of foreign investments in Romania, with a total of over 10 billion euros, since the 1990s.

„Your businesses directly employ over 100,000 Romanians, and our bilateral trade has reached three billion euros annually. With 1,500 Austrian companies operating in Romania, we have built a successful economic partnership. I know that your organization and Austrian businesses have consistently supported free trade and open borders within the European Union, even in difficult conditions,” he said.

The head of state highlighted that these are very complicated times in Europe, especially for Eastern Europe, which is feeling the impact of Russian aggression against Ukraine. In this context, he advocated a rethinking of European security, but also for economic consolidation. He also stressed the need for energy sources „that cannot be used as weapons against us.”

In this context, he advocated a rethinking of European security, but also for economic consolidation. He also stressed the need for energy sources „that cannot be used as weapons against us.”

Thus, Nicusor Dan showed that projects like Neptune Deep are „critically important”, establishing energy independence and creating opportunities for regional cooperation. He also addressed the topic of investment opportunities in the military industry sector for „companies that understand the strategic importance of this moment in history”.

The President spoke about the fact that Romanians and Romanian companies can make a significant contribution to the Austrian labor market.

„I assure you that Romania remains politically stable. Yes, our Government must take urgent measures at this time, to face the challenges of the present. But in the medium and long term, our country will return to a predictable fiscal and legislative system,” he pointed out.

In this context, Nicusor Dan showed his commitment to reducing bureaucracy and reiterated that our country can be an important hub for the connection with the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the Balkans.

President Nicusor Dan began a two-day official visit to Austria, in Salzburg, on Friday, at the invitation of Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen.

The Romanian head of state will also have meetings with Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker.

Also, the President of Romania is the guest of honor of Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen at the Salzburg Festival, a landmark cultural event.
