Former presidential candidate Calin Georgescu was summoned Monday morning at the Prosecutor General’s Office to be informed that prosecutors have changed the legal classification of one of the charges brought against him in connection with the mercenary group led by Horatiu Potra.
„Further to the press releases of February 26 and August 1, 2025, the prosecutor from the Criminal Investigation Section of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice has decided to reclassify the charges against one of the defendants, from disseminating false information and incitement to attempt actions against the constitutional order, to complicity in the attempted subversion of the constitutional order and continuous dissemination of false information (two material acts),” the Prosecutor General’s Office announced in a press release..
Georgescu spent about half an hour inside the Prosecutor’s Office and, upon leaving, suggested that a solution to the crisis in Suceava County would be for each city to „adopt” a family of flood victims.
When asked by journalists why he was summoned to the Prosecutor’s Office, Georgescu replied: „As we say, the truth sweeps everything clean, you know. And I have this message: People make plans and God smiles. The moment will come when God delivers checkmate to this movement, to this situation – and my question is: With which chess piece will God deliver that checkmate?”
Dozens of Georgescu’s supporters, including AUR MPs, were present outside the Prosecutor’s General Office.
Prosecutors maintain that Horatiu Potra and his mercenary group planned to infiltrate protests organized immediately after the presidential elections were annulled, with the aim of creating chaos.
The action plan was allegedly devised by Calin Georgescu and his close associates during a secret meeting at a farm in Ciolpani, held shortly after the annulment of the elections.
Calin Georgescu has already been indicted in a separate case, in which he is accused of publicly promoting the cult of persons convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, as well as of promoting fascist, legionary, racist, or xenophobic ideas, concepts, or doctrines, in a continuous manner (five material acts).
