DIICOT catches 4 Bucharest young men with 24 kg of Cannabis

Four young men from Bucharest were caught by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) prosecutors while picking up a package from Spain which contained 24.2 kilograms of cannabis.

The sting operation took place on July 31, and the next day, the four suspects were placed in pre-trial detention.

„On July 31, 2025, prosecutors with the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) – Central Structure – ordered the detention of four defendants, aged 21, 24, 25 and 39, who are being investigated for committing international trafficking of high-risk drugs and domestic drug trafficking. Investigations revealed that in July 2025, based on a prior agreement, the defendants procured from Spain, with the intent to distribute, a quantity of 24.2 kilograms of cannabis, which they brought into the country via a courier company. The defendants were caught in the act, in Bucharest, while transporting the packages containing the illegal substance,’ according to a DIICOT press release.

On August 1st, the judge of rights and liberties within the Bucharest Courthouse ordered the pre-trial detention of the defendants for a period of 30 days.
