UDMR’s Kelemen: Private pension is the citizen’s savings; only they decide how to use it

National leader of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor said on Friday that the state cannot tell a man how to use his money, and the private pension is the „citizen’s saving” and only he decides how to use the accrued amount.

„The state cannot tell a man how to use his money! The private pension is the saving of the citizen – therefore only he can decide how to use the accrued amount. Neither the government nor the state bodies can establish rules in this regard,” Kelemen wrote in a social media post.

He added that the ruling coalition did not hold consultations on a new regulation in this area, and UDMR rejects any proposal that would limit the rights of citizens who contribute to private pension plans.

Chairman of the Financial Oversight Authority (ASF) Alexandru Petrescu said at the Government House that the a bill on the payment of private pensions was presented on Friday in the first reading at a government meeting, and it provides for two forms of payment: scheduled withdrawal pension, which will be paid for a determined period, with the guarantee of full reimbursement of the accrued assets, and life pension, paid for the entire life of the contributors.
