MEP Negrescu: PSD is not making threats, we want decency, responsibility, dialogue

Published on

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) is not making threats, it wants decency, responsibility and dialogue, MEP Victor Negrescu stated on Monday, prior to the party’s National Standing Bureau meeting, which is set to determine the Social Democrats’ standpoint on continuing their collaboration with the Government.

Negrescu was asked whether there is a strong current within the PSD in favor of leaving the Government.

„At the moment this dialogue is needed and it is good that this meeting was convened today. As you can see, the debate within the PSD is broad and open, which shows that the PSD is a living party, which shows that this dialogue shall continue in the coming weeks. We shall see, there are different voices being expressed. (…) No one is making any threats, the PSD went before Romanians asking them for their vote for a series of objectives and we wish that these objectives be implemented in the governing act. (…) Again, let us be very clear, the PSD is not threatening, the PSD is very responsible, we entered the government, we accepted a prime minister who is not a member of the PSD, although our political weight is much grater, we want decency, responsibility, dialogue, we don’t want to start from radical positions, as some politicians supporting this Government are doing,” Victor Negrescu stated.

He added that there are certain decisions for which much broader consultations should have taken place.

Negrescu said that it is also very important the manner in which the PSD is treated by its colleagues and governing partners.

„The PSD is the largest political party of Romania, according to the last parliamentary election, and consequently, we want decency, respect and dialogue, in order to find the best solutions,” Negrescu underscored.

He stated that the PSD entered the Government because it is a responsible party, which understands the stake of the moment, namely the difficulties Romania is currently confronted with.

„At the same time, we have a programme which we presented to Romanians when we were voted. We believe very much in the need to develop Romania, to grow Romania, not just come up with austerity measures. These topics were presented to the prime minister, we believe in a constructive dialogue with Romania’s prime minister. Furthermore, we want for these ideas that we have to be discussed constructively, not taking radical positions. (…) Currently, the PSD is participating constructively in all these discussions, as long as we are treated with decency and fairness, and our ideas are discussed starting from an objective analysis. (…) My colleagues have prepared several proposals for decisions on sectoral issues, as well as on simplification,” Negrescu mentioned.
