The interim chairperson of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Sorin Grindeanu, said that Romania should emerge as a key player in the European defence industry, in addition to its role as a stabilizing force in the region.
The Social Democratic leader met with Michael Dickerson, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, to discuss strategic issues relevant to Romania’s role as a pillar of stability in the Black Sea and along NATO’s Eastern Flank.
„Our primary focus is on strengthening the U.S. military presence in Romania and enhancing Romania’s significance in the evolving geopolitical landscape, ahead of tomorrow’s meeting in Alaska between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Beyond its role as a stabilizing force in the region, Romania should also emerge as a key player in the European defence industry. Another important bilateral issue for Romania is the Visa Waiver Program. I believe there is an opportunity for the U.S. to revisit its decision and reinstate Romania in the program. Taking this step would also reflect acknowledgment of Romania’s increasing importance in the new geostrategic configuration,” Grindeanu wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
