Statistics: Almost 6pct increase in construction volume in H1 2025

Capital repair works and new construction projects contributed to a 5.9% increase in overall construction volume (gross series) in the first half of this year, compared to the same period in 2024, according to data published the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Wednesday.

According to official statistics, between 1 January and 30 June 2025, capital repair works surged 51.5% year-on-year, while new construction works grew 3.6%. On the other hand, maintenance and current repair works declined 8.5%.

By construction type, growth was recorded in engineering constructions (+10.5%) and residential buildings (+3.1%), while non-residential buildings saw a slight decrease of 0.7% year-on-year.

In seasonally and working-day adjusted terms, the construction volume increased 6.5%, with capital repair works and new constructions showing positive trends (+49.4% and +5.7%, respectively). However, maintenance and current repair works decreased 10.1%.

By type of construction, increases were also noted in engineering constructions (+12.7%) and residential buildings (+2%), while non-residential buildings dropped 1.7%.

Compared to June 2024, the volume of construction works in June 2025 rose overall 8.8% (gross series). By structural element, increases were registered in capital repair works (+39.3%), new construction works (+5%), and maintenance and current repairs (+4.6%).

Additionally, by construction type, engineering constructions rose 12%, residential buildings 10%, and non-residential buildings 1.5%.

According to INS, in seasonally and working-day adjusted terms, the volume of construction works in June 2025 increased 5.4% compared to the same month the previous year. By structural element, capital repair works advanced 35.1%, maintenance and current repairs 4.3%, and new construction works went up 1.9%.

During the same reference period, by construction type, the volume of works increased in engineering constructions (+9.9%) and residential buildings (+9.5%), while non-residential buildings recorded a slight decline of 0.3%.

From one month to the next (May to June 2025), construction works showed growth in both gross series (+14.5%) and adjusted series (+4.4%).
