Turnover in wholesale trade down in H1

The turnover in wholesale trade (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) decreased in the first half of the year, both in gross terms, by 0.4%, and in seasonally and working day-adjusted terms, by 1.1%, compared to the same period in 2024, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Friday.

The business development was driven by declines in wholesale trade of raw agricultural products and live animals (-25.1%), dedicated wholesale trade of other products (-4.6%), and wholesale trade of food, beverages and tobacco (-0.8%).

On the other hand, increases were recorded in the following sectors: wholesale trade intermediation activities (+10.3%), non-dedicated wholesale trade (+9.1%), wholesale trade of other machinery, equipment and supplies, and wholesale trade of non-food consumer goods (each +6.9%), as well as wholesale trade of information and telecommunication equipment (+2.4%).

On an annual basis, in June this year, wholesale trade turnover increased in gross terms by 4.7%, and by 1.6% in seasonally and working day-adjusted terms. This growth was driven by increases in wholesale trade intermediation activities (+20.9%), non-specialised wholesale trade (+16.4%), wholesale trade of non-food consumer goods (+10.2%), wholesale trade of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+7.9%), and dedicated wholesale trade of other products (+3.4%).

Declines were recorded in wholesale trade of raw agricultural products and live animals (-11.8%), wholesale trade of information and telecommunication equipment (-5.0%), and wholesale trade of food, beverages and tobacco (-0.3%).

Compared to the previous month, in June 2025, wholesale trade turnover increased in gross terms by 2%, due to growth in wholesale trade of raw agricultural products and live animals (+28.2%), wholesale trade of non-food consumer goods (+4.7%), wholesale trade of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+2.3%), wholesale trade of information and telecommunication equipment (+1.6%), and wholesale trade of food, beverages and tobacco (+1.4%).

Decreases were recorded in wholesale trade intermediation activities (-8.4%), dedicated wholesale trade of other products (-3.4%), and non-dedicated wholesale trade (-0.6%).

In seasonally and working day-adjusted terms, wholesale trade turnover decreased 0.5%.
