The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) mentioned that Thursday’s meeting between the AEP representatives and a delegation of the US is part of the regular series of meetings which the institution has with external partners in the natural context of international cooperation aimed at promoting Romania’s experience in organizing and conducting free and fair elections.
„Given the false information that has appeared in the public space regarding the meeting between representatives of the Permanent Electoral Authority and a delegation from the United States of America, the AEP makes the following clarifications: Yesterday’s meeting, August 21, 2025, is part of the regular series of meetings that the AEP has with external partners in the natural context of international cooperation aimed at promoting Romania’s experience in organizing and conducting free and fair elections. The discussions targeted the Romanian electoral system as a whole and did not focus on a specific election, touching on topics in the field of electoral legislation, procedures in polling stations, and the financing of political parties and electoral campaigns,” reads an AEP release sent to AGERPRES on Friday.
The quoted source mentioned that the topics discussed within the meeting „concerned common themes addressed in the context of exchanges of experience to promote good practices in electoral matters developed by Romania and did not go beyond the general framework of discussions held over time with specialists from counterpart institutions, as well as with representatives of international organizations active in the electoral field.”
„We recall that delegates from the US Embassy in Bucharest were present at all election observation programs in 2024 and 2025, organized by the AEP to ensure the transparency of the electoral processes,” according to the release.
