Romanian firefighters have been working alongside their Spanish counterparts for four days to combat wildfires that have affected entire communities across Spain.
Currently, 51 Romanian firefighters are in Spain to support local authorities in efforts to contain and extinguish the fires affecting dry vegetation.
According to a statement from the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) sent to AGERPRES, on Monday the national specialized forest fire-fighting unit operated in the northern part of the Ourense region.
The intervention teams are acting under the direct coordination of Spanish authorities, with the primary objective of limiting the spread and extinguishing active fire zones.
The risk index for Monday is at level 3 (high), and conditions on the ground are difficult, the DSU noted.
High temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds are complicating firefighting operations.
Simultaneously, the unit’s personnel are clearing and securing access routes by removing dense vegetation around the fire areas, enabling Spanish fire trucks to pass and establishing safety corridors.
