The magistrates of the Ia?i Court of Appeal decided to suspend their activity indefinitely starting Wednesday, requesting the executive and legislative powers „to cease the aggressive campaign against the judicial authority.”

The decision was taken at Tuesday’s meeting of the General Assembly of Judges of the Ia?i Court of Appeal, following the convocation of the Section for Judges of the Superior Council of Magistracy.

„Starting with 27.08.2025 and until the withdrawal of the draft law, suspends the resolution of cases, with the exception of those in which the function of disposition on the fundamental rights and freedoms of the person is exercised, in the criminal investigation phase, of cases having as object the disposition on preventive measures depriving of liberty (in the preliminary chamber phase and in the trial phase),” it is mentioned in a press release posted on the institution’s website.

According to the document, the magistrates request the urgent withdrawal of the draft law on the reform of magistrates’ service pensions.

„It strongly calls on the representatives of the executive and legislative branches to cease the aggressive campaign against the judicial authority, which seriously affects the rule of law, the rights and freedoms of citizens that can only be effectively guaranteed by an independent judiciary,” the cited source states.

At the same time, the judges announce that they will fulfill their administrative duties, those regarding the motivation of decisions, carrying out procedures for verifying and regularizing applications, individual study and continuous professional training, as well as other legal and regulatory duties, with the exception of adjudicating cases, outside the cases mentioned above.
