A number of 3,850 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 were reported in Romania between 18-24 August, up 87.7% from the previous week, the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) informed.
A number of 936 of the new cases in the past week were in reinfected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after the first infection/another reinfection.
According to the quoted source, one death was reported in a woman with COVID-19, from the 80+ age group who had associated comorbidities.
In this period, 469 RT-PCR tests and 12,105 rapid antigen tests were performed, up 60% from the previous week. The positivity rate was 30.6%, increasing by 6.3% from the previous week.
To date, 3,593,488 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been recorded in Romania, and 69,269 people diagnosed with the virus died.
