PM Bolojan: While I was president, the support granted to Ukraine mainly consisted of Soviet-made ammunition

The support which Romania granted Ukraine while I held the presidency, generally, meant Soviet-made ammunition, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Wednesday evening.

He was asked, in a broadcast at Antena 3 CNN private television station, what the military „packages” granted by Romania to Ukraine consisted of during his time as interim president and later as prime minister.

„I believe that, since I have been in the Government, I approved only one decision, last week, I think it was a decision, amounting to a few tens of thousands of euro, so an insignificant amount, and the support which Romania granted, while I was president, mainly consisted of ammunition. (…) of Soviet production, because that’s the type of ammunition they still use, they have many weapons from the Soviet era, so, essentially, this was the support Romania provided. Moreover, using our infrastructure, for instance, if I recall correctly, Ukrainian pilots were trained on our airfields. Thus, it wasn’t… there’s an entire theory regarding the money Romania allegedly allocated to Ukraine,” Ilie Bolojan explained.

According to him, the support which Romania granted is represented by investments in the security of our country, in Romania’s safety.

„Think about it, if the front in Ukraine doesn’t remain stable and Ukraine were to collapse, imagine what kind of neighbors we would have on our eastern border. Think about the fact that if the Republic of Moldova doesn’t remain a stable and pro-European country, would we really want a Russian proxy on Romania’s eastern frontier? We must openly discuss these issues, which are related to our history and our security. Thus, the support which Romania and all European countries have provided is an investment in Europe’s security,” Ilie Bolojan pointed out.
