Courts activity, suspended, except for urgent cases

Published on

The General Assemblies of Judges from Tribunals and District Courts, held on 26 and 27 August, unanimously decided to adopt the same measures established by the 16 Courts of Appeal across the country: suspension of activity, except for urgent cases.

According to a statement by the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), the General Assemblies of Judges are demanding the immediate withdrawal of the draft law on the reform of magistrates’ service pensions, and an end to the aggressive campaign against judicial authority, which they argue seriously harms the rule of law and the rights and freedoms of citizens, which can only be effectively guaranteed by an independent judiciary.

‘Given this situation, and in order to raise a warning about the major risk of destabilising the judicial system caused by the proposed legislation, it has been decided that, going forward, the activity of the courts will proceed according to the decisions of the General Assemblies. Further information on this matter can be found on each court’s official portal,’ the CSM release concludes.
