Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu thanks Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenegard as well as her Czech counterpart Jan Lipavsky for the solidarity messages sent after a new Russian „provocation.”
„Thank you, @MariaStenergard, for the strong message of solidarity in front of yet another Russian provocation. Our unity and determination remain the strongest response and our common European projects our strongest determinator to work even more together,” Oana Toiu wrote on X platform.
The message came after Maria Stenegard found that another „unacceptable violation” of NATO airspace took place.
„Another unacceptable violation of NATO airspace. Sweden stands in full solidarity with Romania as a NATO Ally and EU Member State. We are always ready to contribute further to the deterrence and defence of the Alliance,” the Swedish minister wrote.
Oana Toiu also thanked Jan Lipavsky for the solidarity message sent.
„Provocations targeting EU countries and @NATO Allies, including Romania never encounter us alone. Our common measures and decisions keep us safer and together we are ready for the work ahead, for deterrence and defence because we are united we have a better chance to restore peace in the region,” Oana Toiu wrote on X.
She thus replied to Jan Lipavsky’s message posted on Sunday.
„Russia continues to provoke. Last night, it was Romania. I do not believe in Russian „mistakes.” As NATO allies, we remain vigilant. Russia must pay a concrete price for its provocations against NATO. That is why Czechia supports further sanctions,” the Czech minister wrote.
On the night of Saturday to Sunday, Oana Toiu announced on X that the Romanian Air Force had intercepted a Russian drone, after it violated the Romanian airspace near the Danube. She mentioned the population was never in danger, but such actions from Russia are „unacceptable and reckless.”
„Romania condemns Russia’s behaviour and takes the necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security. We are in constant contact with our EU and @NATO partners and allies on the provocations of Rusia, including this latest one,” Oana Toiu wrote.
She pleaded for the rapid adoption of a new package of sanctions against Russia and the full spectrum of measures part of NATO’s „Eastern Sentry” operation.
„I will also raise Russia’s actions at UNGA, urging a strict international adherence to sanctions,” Toiu also mentioned. AGERPRES
