EnvMin Buzoianu: Our mission is to save as many projects from Recovery and Resilience Plan as possible

Published on

Part of the money from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) was lost following renegotiations with the European Commission, and our mission is to save as many of the projects as possible that will have an impact, including in terms of local recycling obligations, the minister of environment, waters and forests, Diana Buzoianu, told a specialist conference on Monday.

„We at the Ministry of Environment are trying to help you with as many funds as possible. It may not come as a surprise to you that, in recent years, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan has been in place. Part of this money was lost following renegotiations with the European Commission, which told us that it does not trust that all these projects that have been started can be completed. Our mission, and what we are trying to do in these weeks, is to save as many of the projects as possible that will have an impact, including in terms of local recycling obligations,” Buzoianu said.

In her vision, local authorities must implement projects that will lead to an increase in collection rates at the local level.

„The main message that we all propose: to respect Romania, as we respect our own home. I think that in a few years we will see the necessary increases in collection. In fact, Romania has assumed a milestone target, next year, through the PNRR, that we will increase collection. Part of increasing this target is also much clearer communication and a much clearer education campaign. We do what we can, to help with funds. Local authorities must do what they can, to implement the respective projects and increase collection at the local level. Civil society has an essential way of communicating with people, being able to carry the messages forward. Whoever does not comply must know that there will also be authorities who will be at the table and who will apply sanctions to you. We also have a duty to future generations, to leave them a world in which they can live properly,” emphasised the minister.

The National Environmental Guard (GNM) is organizing, on Monday, at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), the event „Restart recycling – a new beginning for the environment”, which benefits from the support of Let’s Do It, Romania, the OIREP Ambalaje Association, the Pro WEEE Romania Coalition and the Recycling Map – Viitor Plus.
