PM Bolojan holds talks at government with representatives of the Association of Pork Producers in Romania

Published on

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met with representatives of the Romanian Pork Producers Association on Wednesday, at Victoria Palace of Government, to discuss measures to combat African swine fever and support the pig farming sector.

According to a government press release, association representatives highlighted the challenges faced by farmers, particularly losses caused by the spread of African swine fever despite investments in biosecurity.

„Measures aimed at limiting the spread of the virus and its effects were discussed, including: clear and updated records of animals in households and farms, in accordance with current legislation; monitoring and management of wild boar populations in forested areas; combating unauthorized and untaxed pork trade; and accelerating and ensuring compensation payments in areas affected by outbreaks,” reads the release.

The prime minister emphasized the need for firmer action by the state and for holding involved institutions accountable to enforce legislation and identify the most effective solutions against the spread of African swine fever.

„The Romanian Government supports the development of the pig sector under safe sanitary conditions for both farmers and the public, aiming to maintain a balance between domestic production and imports, thereby contributing to a reduction in the trade balance deficit,” the press release further mentions.

The meeting at Victoria Palace of Government was attended by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Florin Barbu, and the president of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), Alexandru Bociu. AGERPRES
