Meteorologists have extended the Code red warning for heavy rain to five counties and Bucharest, with the alert set to come into effect on Tuesday evening at 21:00.

According to the latest warnings issued by the National Meteorological Administration (ANM), between 7 October at 21:00 and 8 October at 15:00, torrential and heavy rain is expected in the counties of Constanta, Calarasi, Ialomita, Giurgiu, Ilfov and Bucharest. Isolated thunderstorms may occur, and rainfall amounts could reach 80 to 100 litres per square metre and locally 120 to 140 litres per square metre, in short intervals or through accumulation.

On the other hand, a Code orange warning for significant rainfall has been issued for the period 7 October at 21:00 to 8 October at 23:00, covering Muntenia, the southern half of Moldavia, Dobrogea, and the south-east of Transylvania and Oltenia, where rainfall totals of 60 to 90 litres per square metre are expected, with isolated amounts reaching 100 litres per square metre.

Moreover, a Code yellow advisory has also been issued for heavy rain, strong wind gusts and blizzard conditions at altitudes above 1,700 metres.

Thus, locally, in northern Moldavia, southern Transylvania, eastern and southern Oltenia, and the western Southern Carpathians, rainfall totals of 25 to 30 litres per square metre are expected, with isolated amounts of 40 to 50 litres.

In the counties of Vaslui, Bacau, Vrancea, Galati, Buzau, Prahova, Braila, Ialomita, Calarasi, Constanta, Tulcea, Ilfov and in Bucharest, wind gusts of 50 to 70 km/h are forecast.

In the Southern Carpathians, at altitudes above 1,700 metres, temporary blizzard conditions are expected with wind gusts of 60 to 90 km/h, accompanied by snowfall depositing a layer of 10 to 30 cm. AGERPRES
