Unionist in education protest in front of the government headquarters

Published on

Trade unionists from the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education and the Federation of Trade Unions in Education „Spiru Haret” picketed, on Tuesday, the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance, dissatisfied with the fiscal-budgetary measures adopted by the Executive, but also with the postponement of the payment of installments related to the amounts provided by court decisions, meaning salary rights established in favour of the personnel of public institutions and authorities.

„These amounts are not a „gift”, but a right recognized in court, all the amounts earned by trade union organizations in education for their members in the last 15 years being subject to payment in installments through Government acts,” FSLI representatives said on Monday on Facebook.

Education in Romania is going through „the darkest period” in the last 35 years, due to the provisions of Law 141/2025 regarding fiscal-budgetary measures that have transformed the Romanian school into a „disorganized and demotivating” system, FSLI president Simion Hancescu said on Sunday, in a press release issued on the occasion of International Education Day.

„The current government wanted cost-cutting and got: merged schools and overcrowded classes, eliminated school scholarships, students commuting to school from long distances, over 14,000 reduced positions, hidden salary cuts, teachers forced to teach school subjects from different curricular areas, valuable substitute teachers who were forced to leave the education system, zero investment in school infrastructure!” he said.

According to education unions, teachers are treated with contempt, and this attitude will lead to resignations and early retirements.

„All these bad decisions, lacking logic, analysis, solid arguments, will lead Romania on only one path – that of building a society without values, without education, without direction, always subject to manipulation,” claims Simion Hancescu.

FSLI demanded the resignation of the Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, and of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. AGERPRES
