Average net monthly wage falls to 5,387 lei in August

The average net monthly wage in Romania fell to 5,387 lei in August 2025, down by 130 lei (2.4%) compared to the previous month, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Monday.

The gross average monthly wage was 9,002 lei, a decrease of 199 lei (2.2%) compared to July 2025.

The highest average net earnings were recorded in air transport (12,458 lei) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (11,649 lei). The lowest were reported in the manufacture of clothing (3,341 lei) and in the hotels and restaurants sector (3,367 lei).

Compared to August of the previous year, the net average wage increased 4.4%.

The real wage index was 95% in August 2025 compared to August 2024, and 95.6% compared to July 2025. Relative to October 1990, the real wage index stood at 236.4%, down by 10.8 percentage points compared to July 2025.
